ALMOST A YEAR

Man alive, has it been long! Can’t say it’s not for any reason! I’ve been hard at work sharpening my skills and getting closer and closer to realizing some big, BIG ideas. I’ve also been doing some Good Samaritan work, handing out portrait for some photogenic friends around Facebook. They seem to appreciate it.

I’ll throw up some of my other recent projects in here, but cruise around my galleries if you’d like! Cheers!

Much needed update!

It’s been a long while, hasn’t it? Nevertheless, I’ve been crazy busy trying to build up my legacy here. Working with two clients and getting work done through online training is really paying off. Take a look at a few of my sections here to find some new work!

Character Design

Below is some works in progress that I’ll be completing soon.

The Council of Dew

I gave myself and my group of artists a challenge:

Based on a photo of some peculiar flowers I happened upon, come up with a character design. Bonus points if you got a story. I haven't been able to whip up a story, but a I do have a name:

"The Council of Dew"

Thanks for visiting! I hope to have more works published here soon.

New illustrations and upcoming Patreon?!

Well, I’ve managed to finish my first big illustration project of 2019, and I’m feeling pretty good with myself. It’s based on the slick KDA music video that our friends at Riot Games put together for promotion of their new skins package. If you haven’t seen it yet, please do yourself a favor!

As for my work, take a look below!

Also, I’ve been thinking a lot lately, and I’m strongly considering starting a Patreon campaign. I’m starting to work pretty consistently, and I’m sure there are a few who’d like to see me continue. Plus, I' have a lot of projects I’d like to start doing, and such campaign finance would aid towards those goals. I read an article from a much more seasoned illustrator recently on this very topic. It can be read here.

I’ll keep you folks updated! I’m pretty excited by the idea. Godspeed.

Happy 2019!

Hello!

I don’t always do this, but these are what I believe to be my best work of 2018. My only regret is that I didn’t do more! As for what I plan for the future?

I’d love to start a Patreon. I think I can start working regularly enough to justify something like that.

I’d love to get back into making webcomics. I’ve been experimenting with a process flow for comic panels, and I think I may have something. I just need to budget my time and make a plan for this.

I’d love to become more prolific an artist. I really don’t feel like I do enough work on a regular basis and I’d love to fix that. Some shortcuts and tricks would help greatly with that.

Here goes nothing!

Inktober 2018!

I had a blast making new ink pieces this year. Really pushed myself with some of the selections. I tend not to follow the prompts for Inktober so I have more freedom. If you’re not familiar with Inktober, look here!

Sept 2018 - Baltimore Book Festival!

Man it’s been some time!

Good news is that I was invited to give my “Hit Confirm” presentation on the history of character design for video games. I also made a great number of new prints for this show that I haven’t sold before! This is going to be quite exciting, provided that the weather isn’t as sweltering as it was last year. ^_^ Here’s just one among many new prints I’ll have available!

Anyway, I’ve also been busy taking a course from Paintable.cc in strengthening my illustrations. I believe I’ve made some improvements to my conceptual understandings, and I have some steps here. It’s an update on an illustrations I made a few years ago. Quite refreshing to revisit this.

After a few more modifications, I’ll have another print to show off! Here’s a dump of some other smaller pieces I’ve done. That Spider-Man PS4 game is calling me…

Escape Velocity 2018!

So my presentation on character design in video game history which I titled "Hit Confirm" was well-received enough that I've been requested to give again this year and Escape Velocity!  Certainly exciting, and I'm hoping to give a better performance this time around.

I've been keeping myself busy with commission work for a fantasy card game and the #MerMay event started by Tom Bancroft.  I've been realizing that I work better when I have a hand drawing as means of getting my thoughts down first.  Makes the digital process a lot less intimidating.  I'll employ that approach more often from now on.  I'm happy with the work I've done since I last wrote here.  You can see some of it below!

Sketch dump and updates on future pursuits!

Hello!

It's certainly been a while, but I haven't stopped!

In the time I've been away, I've been hammering at my new job as a web developer and doing a lot of daily work.  I think it will behoove me to dump my drawings and such that I've done here on occasion.  I'm told that if you do that enough, you can put together a sketchbook for sale.  Sounds like a plan...

Also, I've enrolled into the Schoolism course for environment design, as that's always been one of my weaker areas.  I just need to set aside time to practice it.  A year can go by before I know it.

I've also enrolled at Paintable.cc for their character design courses, though it may take time for that to become available.  I should take advantage of the other training courses there in the meantime.

I AM taking advantage of paintable's private Facebook group for critiques.  I'm trying to push myself to complete an illustration project for a series of images depicting the bosses from Dark Souls 3.  It's quite the undertaking, and I find myself struggling with it.  I hope to finish by the end of the year, but that will require me to push myself harder than I ever have.  You'll see some of them here, and I'm excited to see it through to completion.  I think posting process images here will keep up my momentum.

You'll see at least the completed illustrations here, so keep watching!

The month of November...

MAN, what a month.  I finished a series of workshops with the Coder Kids Club in Crofton, MD, turned down a bad commission deal, got a new job, and wrote quite a few film reviews.  BTB, I write film reviews...

With that said, I thought it good to inform you of some of the new Inktober work I've done (also featured here) and show off a special project for a special lady.

Also, I'm planning a few projects to undertake very soon.  I recently (read: finally) enrolled in the Digital Painting Academy and I'm eager to begin some more sophisticated work and projects.  These are projects I've been wanting to do for years, so it'll be most satisfying to me above all else to actually undertake them.

Baltimore Book Festival 2017!!

I've made quite a few modifications to my site here that I'm very happy with.  I hope you all enjoy it.  In the meantime, I'm excited for the Baltimore Book Festival this weekend at the Baltimore Inner Harbor!

I'll be teaching a small workshop on drawing Chibi style Friday afternoon.  When I come back next week, I plan to post a narrative illustration project I completed a small while ago.  Thanks for visiting!

Upcoming events! (Sept 2017)

We had another Southern MD Comic Con last weekend!  Part of me wishes that we could have it back at the Capitol Clubhouse in Waldorf, MD, as we had a much bigger audience and greater turnout.  This was great all the same!  Met some awesome folks and had some fun showing people how to draw chibi.  Thanks for everyone who showed up!

Next up is the Escape Velocity where I am to give a presentation on the history of character design for video games!  It promises to be a very major function, and I'm stoked for it.  Hope to see you there!  In the meantime, check out some of the cosplayers from the Southern MD Convention!

Upcoming events! (Aug 2017)

I just finished a workshop in character design at the Washington County Public Library, and what a time we had!  There were very promising young talents there that I hope will pursue their passions onward.  I recommended the anatomical training of former Disney animator Aaron Blaise for those struggling with the human form.  Below is a video clip of the workshop!

As for the next show, I'm slated to appear with my long time partners of the Art Way Alliance for this year's Southern Maryland Comic Con.  I'm blown away by the fact that Bryan Tillman, an old classmate of mine from the Savannah College of Art Design, is going to be presenting.  I'm inspired to up my art game in his presence.  Hope to see you there!

Here is a gallery of some of the cosplayers at the con.  Always a treat!
